Both Perry and Waynesfield-Goshen are blazing their own trails as we reach the midway point of the season. Both are out to 3-1 starts at schools where football success has been sporadic at best. The Tigers haven't had a winning season since 2011. For the Commodores, last fall was their first since 2006. Someone's gonna take a big step toward that plateau tonight in Waynesfield.

Our John Rawlings has more from Shawnee Stadium.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Lima Senior

Our Countdown to Kickoff today takes us to Lima Senior. The Spartans feel they were just a few plays away from a fourth straight winning campaign a season ago. Our John Rawlings tonight examines how Lima can get there this year as we "Countdown to Kickoff" at Senior High.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Lima Central Catholic

The Lima Central Catholic football team pulled off an amazing turnaround a year ago bouncing back from a 2-8 season in 2016 to a 9-1 campaign and the top seed in one of the state's toughest post-season regions. However, it's the bitter end of their playoff run that sticks with this year's Thunderbirds as 15 fateful seconds saw LCC go from the doorstep of the regional finals to an abrupt end of the line. Jack McGuire tonight takes our "Countdown to Kickoff" to LCC.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Bath

The Bath football team hasn't made the playoffs since 2003. Over the span of those 15 years, the Wildcats only winning season came in 2015 when they barely missed the post-season on a 3rd-level tie-breaker. This fall, plenty of fresh faces fill out a program looking to get back in that playoff hunt after back-to-back losing campaigns. Our John Rawlings tonight continues our "Countdown to Kickoff" at Bath.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Elida

Last season the Elida football team ended a four-year postseason drought, tallying an 8-2 record and finishing second in the Western Buckeye League. Success often comes with a senior-laden roster and that was definitely the case for the Bulldogs. So this year, the orange dawgs have plenty of new faces stepping into key roles. Our Jack McGuire tonight takes the "Countdown to Kickoff" to Elida.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Allen East

The Allen East Mustangs are looking to return to the top of the NWC under their new head coach.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Bluffton

Bluffton is ready to rise to the top of the NWC.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Spencerville

After an 0-2 start last year, Chris Sommers led Spencerville to an undefeated league record and their first outright NWC crown in 54 years. Our Jack McGuire takes the "Countdown to Kickoff" into Spencerville.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Shawnee

3-time Ohio Coach of the Year Jerry Cooper takes the reigns at Shawnee this fall.  The 31-year veteran is the 5th Indians head coach in the last 7 years.  He's found plenty of talent at his new school, including some stars from other Shawnee sports teams who will try to make big plays on the gridiron this season.  Jack McGuire has more in our latest Countdown to Kickoff feature.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Delphos Jefferson

From 2013 to 2016, Jefferson amassed a 26 - 2 record in the Northwest Conference, won 4 straight league titles and made the playoffs every year. That string was snapped with a 6-4 mark a season ago. This fall, six returning starters on each side of the ball will be guided by their 3rd head coach in 3 years, as former Jefferson assistant Luke Taviano now holds the top job. John Rawlings tonight takes our "Countdown to Kickoff" to Jefferson.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Delphos St. John's

Ten years ago, the Blue Jays began a string of four straight trips to state which produced two championships and another runner-up finish. St. John's hit the opposite extreme with a 1-9 campaign and two straight missed post-seasons. Now, fresh off a 6-4 regular season and a return to the regional finals, a relatively young squad looks to continue the Jays' rise back to power.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Perry

We begin tonight with a program coming off a banner year. The 2017 Perry Commodores made the post-season for the first time in history and are just the second Perry football team since the turn of the century to finish with a winning record. The 2018 squad features plenty of familiar faces but a brand new head coach for the third time in three years.

Two Hardin County teams are ready to roll comes August 24th.

These two Blanchard Valley conference members could be fighting for the top spot in the league.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Findlay and Liberty-Benton

Findlay and Liberty-Benton are separated by a mere 3.1 miles and with their close proximity and competitiveness it's not a surprise that both the Trojans and Eagles share the same goals. Our Countdown to Kickoff continues in Hancock County.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Coldwater and Marion Local

It's a rivalry that draws statewide attention and that's just for the 50/50 drawing. Never mind the high-level on-field product! Coldwater and Marion Local have combined to win 10 state championships over the past 7 years and 16 since the year 2000. Get this, that's the same number of MAC titles they've claimed in that time. Let's countdown to kickoff in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Neighbors and rivals will again collide to kickoff the high school football season this year. Tonight, we continue our "Countdown to Kickoff" two-a-days with these Putnam County rivals.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Ottawa-Glandorf & Kenton

Over the past 20 years, Kenton and Ottawa-Glandorf have combined to win 13 Western Buckeye League football championships and made 23 playoff appearances. So it was almost glaring to see a set of brackets without either of these WBL powers included last fall. Tonight, we take our Countdown to Kickoff two-a-days to Kenton and O-G.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Indian Lake & Bellefontaine

In the Central Buckeye Conference, there are two teams who have not lost to a divisional opponent in the last two years. We continue our Countdown to Kickoff with Indian Lake and Bellefontaine.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Fort Loramie & Anna

  • Countdown to Kickoff: St. Henry & Fort Recovery

Countdown to kickoff moves back into the MAC. Conference neighbors St. Henry and Fort Recovery were intertwined at the peak of the 2017 season. We'll hear from both, as they now prepare for 2018.

These WBL Rivals Are Both Looking to Improve on Slow Starts from a Season Ago

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Waynesfield-Goshen and Lehman Catholic

Day 3 of the Countdown to Kickoff. Today our 2-a-days again begin in Auglaize County with a resurgent bunch of Tigers at Waynesfield-Goshen. Plus we visit the defending NWCC champs at Lehman Catholic.

  • Countdown to Kickoff: Minster and New Bremen

We pay a visit to the two football-playing legs of the golden triangle. Minster is coming off their second state championship in 4 years and sticking to the same summer philosophy that's seen such recent success. While New Bremen is trying to work their way onto the level of their MAC neighbors.
