Pork rind appreciation leads to donation for vets

Posted: Updated:
Westminster, Ohio -

A local company wants to combine Americas love for football with the love of certain snack foods in an effort to support wounded veterans.

The three elements might seem like a mish mash of ideas.  However, Rudolph Foods, based in Westminster, is bringing them all together. The company is launching an effort to brand Super Bowl Sunday as National Pork Rind Appreciation Day. Pork rind fans are encouraged to vote for the official creation of the day. For every vote, Rudolph Foods will donate ten cents to support the non-profit Wounded Warriors Family Support.

Colonel John Folsum, founder of the charity, stopped by Rudolph Foods as part of the non-profit's High Five tour. The road trip across America is drumming up funds for injured soldiers.

The goal of Rudolph Foods is to get enough votes to donate $10,000 to Wounded Warriors Family Support. To help the company get 10 cents closer to the goal, and to support the creation of national pork rind appreciation day, go to http://www.voteporkrinds.com
