SHAWNEE, Ohio (WLIO) - When Phil Trueblood lost in last year's championship flight final for the Lima City Golf Tournament, he had to wait 364 days for his next chance. Then he had to be on standby six more days after last Sunday's final was postponed due to weather. As it turns out, it was worth the wait. Trueblood, in his fifth final on Saturday, finally won his first title 3 & 2 over Dillon Klein at Shawnee Country Club.
Trueblood stormed out to an early lead taking the first three holes and held a commanding four up lead through the first five holes.
Klein, the 2006 Div. III individual state champ from Delphos Jefferson, slowly climbed his way back into the match by winning the 9th, 11th, and 14th holes to cut the deficit to just one up.
Rattled, but not ruptured, Trueblood finally responded by winning the fifteenth and sixteenth holes for the victory.
In other results, Pete Hubbell defeated Willie McGuire 5 & 4 in the super senior flight, while in the senior open flight Carl Neely knocked off Bob Kondas 2 up.
