Q.
A friend did not give me a gift for my wedding, and it's been well over a year. Her wedding is coming up, so should I refrain from giving her a wedding gift? It sounds spiteful but what's the best way to handle this?

A. If you think it's wrong that someone didn't give you a gift, why would you want to be guilty of the same etiquette faux pas?

You should still get her something (it's okay to spend a little less than you originally intended) and cut her some slack.

Maybe she was short on money around the time of your wedding (sounds like she was saving for her own), or she maybe she just forgot.

If it's the latter, there's a good chance that sending her a gift will "remind" her to send you one.

And if a present does arrive and she spent less than you did on her gift, don't get worked up.

You should spend as much as you think is right regardless of what your friends gave you. Remember it's the thought that counts, not the price tag.
