The history of the village of Uniopolis can be found inside the historical society building next to their municipal building.
The final chapter could be coming soon, as village officials consider the possibility of dissolving the corporation.
The whole issue comes down to cuts in state funding that has crippled the village's current budget and likely future budgets.
Village council would have to put the issue before the voters. That could happen in November if council members find there's enough interest.
The alternative to dissolving is having the voters approve a ten mill levy.
Village council president Greg Ritchie says the situation could be helped by Union township absorbing the village. Union township would stand to inherit the Uniopolis tax base and the responsibilities for services. Union township trustee chair, Dale Miller says it's a difficult situation for both Uniopolis and the township.
If council goes ahead and begins the process of dissolution, it could take about two years to complete.
