BRAC again?

Posted: Updated:

It's déjà vu all over again.

The 2004-2005 "Base Realignment and Closure" round was said to be "the BRAC to end all BRAC's", but that may not be the case.

President Obama's fiscal year 2013 budget has requested two more rounds of 'BRAC', one in 2013, another in 2015.

The commission 7 years ago was charged with cutting defense installations here at home in an effort to save money.

The 'Joint Systems Manufacturing Center' survived that round of cuts.

Task Force Lima members visited Washington with Your News Now along to cover  their effort to save the Lima facility, which they did and may have to do again.

But one U-A-W official, who was part of that effort 7 years ago doesn't see the need for another 'BRAC', and he hopes high ranking members of Congress feel the same way.

U-A-W General Dynamics Coordinator Jeff Monroe says another 'BRAC' makes no sense and says the focus of any cuts needs to be the hundreds of overseas bases and bringing personnel home.

He says he understands in some cases there are contracts with foreign governments to have a U.S. presence, but when push-comes-to-shove, we have to protect the jobs here at home first.

Task Force Lima met Tuesday, they will meet again in April.
