An unbelievable sight as a navy jet crashed into several apartment buildings in Virginia.
This is home video taken shortly after the F-18 crashed. As you can see, buildings are engulfed in flames.
A navy captain says the jet experienced a mechanical problem not long after taking off from naval air station oceana. Officials say both pilots ejected safely, sending the unmanned jet crashing in to these apartment building in Virginia beach. The complex is home to mostly elderly ... Investigators are working on accounting for all of the resident's. Seven people, including the pilots were taken to the hospital, but their injuries are not life threatening.
Just about a block away from the crash, a lima man was preparing to leave his home to back to area for Easter ... He say he felt the event, and witnessed much of it's aftermath.
What looked like something that out of a movie was real life for many people in the Virginia beach area as an F-18 crashes in a residential area.
Lima native, Tyler griffin, has been living in Virginia for four years now. He's lives just a block away and the crash slowed his Easter trip back home to lima.
Griffin said that it is fairly common to see the planes flying overhead with oceana naval base just a few miles away.
Griffin said everyone has expected this to happen at some point, but you're never really prepared for something like this when it actually happens.
The streets in the neighborhood were blocked off so griffin and his wife will have a delayed trip back home for Easter weekend.
