Officers at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources are seeing more boaters out earlier because of the mild spring.
Ohio law requires that every watercraft have enough life jackets for each passenger on board. While not required, law enforcement officials recommend that the safety vests are worn at all times. It is also recommended to pay close attention to forecasts prior to boating because even on sunny days, high winds can make boating extremely dangerous. Because of the early boating season and the warm air temperature, it is easy to forget how cold the water still is.
