The Lima City Schools has lost the corner stone of their Special Education Department. Sixty year old Brenda Ellis passed away unexpectedly overnight. She was the Director of Special Education with Lima City Schools, but that was just one hat she wore for the community. She also was the sorority leader for Alpha Kappa Alpha, spear headed the back pack program for the school, initiated the paraprofessional training for the district, was a member of the children first council, and contributed many other ways to the community. The school system will greatly miss Ellis who was described as a child advocate.
Lima City School Superintendent, Karel Oxley, said "She especially spent her life working for the needs of our special needs students. Making sure they had every opportunity possible to succeed in life. You can't believe how somber the tone is today in the Lima City Schools she will be greatly missed. It is a very somber day today. Everyone is so stunned to hear of this news."
Funeral arrangements at Jones-Clark funeral home have not been finalized and are pending.
