Lima, Oh. After the apparent high profile suicide of former NFL star Junior Seau, attentions have again turned on how to prevent people from taking their own lives.
Those closest to Seau say they were shocked to hear the news, claiming him to be a generally happy person. However, that is often the case even locally. In 2011, 15 deaths were attributed to suicide, the most in the county since 1993. Healthy People 2010 has been keep track of suicides for the last two years. While the reason for the increase is not known, there have been some useful discoveries. White middle-aged males are the most likely to commit suicide.
The We Care Crisis Center is a 24-hour 7-day a week operation at 797 South Main Street in Lima. Its purpose is to council those considering suicide or to offer support to friends or family members of someone considering suicide. Phone calls and walk ins are welcome.
