The Better Business Bureau has been fielding dozens of calls about a phone solicitation that is going on in the area called "Cops for Kids." This organization is headquartered in Ashtabula, Ohio and has no local ties nor does it help anyone in our region. Fraternal Order of Police President, Michael Watkins, says the name is similar to one used by the Lima Lodge #21 FOP called "Cops & Kids."
Watkins says he does not want local residents donating to this organization believing it is the local charity which is primarily used to benefit children in Allen County.
The BBB advises any organization soliciting residents for a charity should be checked out through the Better Business Bureau before committing a donation or pledge.
