On Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 8:16pm, the Ada Police Department was dispatched to the campus of Ohio Northern University to assist ONU Security as they were investigating subjects breaking into vehicles on campus property. ONU Security had stopped a vehicle occupied by 4 subjects, two of which left the scene while being questioned by ONU Security.
An officer of the Ada Police Department found one of the male subjects as described by ONU Security approximately 2 blocks from the scene and took the male subject into custody on suspicion of underage drinking and obstructing an investigation. The male subject was later identified as Ada resident Jason Parker, 20 years old.
The Ada Police Officer transported Parker to campus to continue the investigation when shortly after his arrival at the scene Parker was able to exit the police cruiser through the cage window and then through the passenger door. Parker was handcuffed in the rear.
Upon discovering Parker missing just minutes later and situated directly next to a wooded area, officers from the Ada Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff's Office and ONU Security established a perimeter and searched the wooded and surrounding area.
Officers continued to investigate the identity of Parker, who had originally given officers false information, which led officers to the residence of his mother in the Northland Trailer Park in Ada. Officers found Parker at that residence with his handcuffs still on. Parker was taken back into custody without further incidence and was subsequently transported to the Multi-County Jail in Marion, Ohio.
Parker was arrested on outstanding felony warrants and will be charged with Escape, Obstruction, Underage Drinking and Theft.
The Ada Police Department continues to investigate the identity of the other subject who departed the scene while ONU Security was conducting their investigation.
A 21-year-old female was released from the scene and a 16-year-old male subject will be charged with underage drinking as well; his identity will not be released.
