The GPA eligibility requirements for extracurricular activities may be changing for students attending the Lima City Schools, but the final decision will be in the hands of Lima school board members. Right now Lima City Schools has the highest GPA requirement for eligibility at 1.75. Most other schools in our area have theirs set at 1.5 and some do not have a set GPA requirement and go with what the Ohio High School Athletic Association has set. According to Lima Senior Superintendent, Karel Oxley, they are not lowering their GPA but aligning their GPA with what other schools have set. The board will look at a 1.5 grade point average for eligibility. According to the rules of the OHSAA a student has to pass five classes to be eligible. Lima city schools wants to make sure that more students have an opportunity to grow as a student and individual. The decision will be made by the Lima city school board Thursday night at their board meeting. It will take place at freedom elementary at 6pm.
