Flags placed to honor LPD officers

Posted: Updated:

They dedicated their careers to protect and serve the Lima community and today they are remembered for that service.

As part of the 125th anniversary of the Lima Police Department flags are being placed at the grave sites of former officers.

Lima Police Chief Kevin Martin and retired Chief Greg Garlock took time Tuesday afternoon placing flags at several graves including past Chief Thomas Phalen and Officer Phillip Droesch who was killed in the line of duty.

Martin says that it is important to remember all who have served behind the shield.

The Lima Explorers Post also helped with the placement of flags.

Martin believes that they were able to find and mark most of the former LPD officers buried locally.

If you have a loved one that honorably served on the department and did not receive a flag at their grave site contact the department and arrangements will be made to get a flag to you.
