The state says one size doesn't fit all when it comes to handling child abuse and neglect cases.

Allen County officially joins a pilot program next month designed to give workers at Children Services some choices in handling these kinds of reports.

A full-blown investigation is always a possibility if there is evidence of abuse, but the Alternative Response Method will allow workers to respond in a more proportional manner depending on the seriousness of the situation.

Since 2001, the number of children in out-of-home care has dropped by about forty percent.

The State Department of Job and Family Services hopes the Alternate Response way of treating cases can keep even more families together..

Other counties have already seen good response to the program being adopted here at home...all in an effort to promote a strength based philosophy.
