While most people spend the long Memorial holiday weekend with family and friends, Husky workers spent their weekends picketing for a cause.
Many from the Husky Refinery are spending their weekend on the picket line. One of those men was Larry Wisher, who has worked at the refinery for the past 28 years, and has never seen a strike. It's something he would rather not do, but he and others are doing whatever it takes to get a fair contract.
Treasurer for Local 624, Jeff Mack says the issue at hand is not one about money. The real issue has to do with management and how workers are being treated.
Following a heat stroke of one of the picketers Saturday, Mack isn't the only one worried about heat exhaustion for those on the line. Shawnee police have also voiced concerns for the workers safety.
Staying hydrated, sitting in the shade and picketing in shifts, are just a few ways workers are beating the heat on this Memorial Day weekend.
As the Husky strike continues, we'll bring you any and all updates on the husky contract negotiations as they become available.
