The Lima teen accused of shooting and killing 19 year old Isaiah Smith of Columbus was in court for his preliminary hearing this morning.
At the hearing, the judge decided there was sufficient evidence against 19 year old Deshawn Porter to continue with a criminal trial in common pleas court. The prosecutions only witness, detective Kenton Miller, described a scenario where Porter and 35 year old Santario Simpson met Smith to sell him one pound of marijuana. At this meeting, Smith pulled a gun and a struggle started over it, ultimately causing Simpson to get shot in the leg. Porter then ended up with a gun and shot Smith in the head. The detective was uncertain if there was more than one weapon and the lab results on the weapon used are still pending. Porter continues to be held on a $500,000 bond with %10 cash surety.
