Today is the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day across the country and in Auglaize county they were marking the day along the Miami and Erie canal.
The event, near the High St. shelter house was to celebrate the improvements the city of St. Marys has made throughout the years to improve the canal.
The improvements have been dramatic and have added to the quality of life for St. Marys residents according to Neal Brady, Executive Director of the Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association.
National Trails Day was established in 1993 and has inspired thousands of people to enjoy trails on the same day nationwide, taking part in hikes, bike and horse rides, trail maintenance and other activities.
