Thanks to a lawsuit victory, Allen county will have the funds to demolish as many as 30 homes.
On March 12th, the Ohio Attorney General settled a lawsuit with five of the nations largest mortgage services concerning foreclosure abuses. 330 million dollars was awarded nationally, with Ohio receiving 93 million dollars. Of that, $500,000 has been allocated to Allen county. The money comes with the stipulation that it must be spent to take down vacant homes. The grant will be officially awarded on August, 1st of this year, and it requires that all of the work is finished by the end of 2013.
While the list is open for changes, currently Spencerville has the most homes for demolition with 9. Lima has proposed 8 and Cairo has the third most requesting 5.
