BBB warns of check scam

A warning from the Better Business Bureau of Northwest Ohio about a counterfeit check scam that's hitting our area.

In this version someone will receive an envelope with a check that came from either the US Postal Service, Federal Express or UPS.

After receiving the check, the victim gets either an email or a phone call saying they have won or inherited some large amount of money or merchandise.

In order to claim their prize, they need to cash the check and send the majority of the money back to the scam artists to pay for administrative fees or some other made up charges.

If you get a check report it to the agency that delivered the package as soon as possible, and also report it to the Better Business Bureau.
