Elder Abuse Awareness Day

   It is a devastating reality for many older Americans and Ohio has joined the country in bringing attention to this increasing crime against the elderly.

      Today, June 15th, by Ohio General Assembly House Bill 215 is Elder Abuse Awareness Day and many around the area are recognizing all that seniors contribute to our society.

     Lost Creek Care Center wanted to participate because they care about ending elder abuse and neglect.

     Statistics from the Ohio Department of Aging show that as many a 1 in 10 seniors have experienced some type of abuse, neglect or exploitation.

     And what's even more disturbing is that 80 percent of those go unreported.

The debilitating results of elder abuse can range from physical injury, mental anguish, financial loss, violations of rights to death.

     The bottom line is if you see it happening put a stop to it.

  In 2003 the Ohio Attorney General and the Department of Aging established the Ohio Elder Abuse Task Force to protect older Ohioans that have suffered abuse.
