Man killed while changing tire on side of road

A man is hit by a car and killed this afternoon while fixing his tire on the side of the road.

It happened around 2pm Sunday on US 127 just north of SR 613.

State troopers say Paul Keeler, 63, lost the left front wheel of his truck and was putting it back on when Walter Harris, 88, drove by and didn't leave enough room.

Keeler and John Gideon, 51, who was helping put the tire on, were both thrown onto the back of Gideon's flatbed wrecker.

Keeler died at the hospital. Gideon has minor injuries. Harris was treated and released.

The crash is under investigation.
