ADA, OHIO -

The ball has been in their court for almost 40 years, and female athletes wouldn't have it any other way.

Saturday marks 40 years since the passage of Title Nine. The law makes it possible for young girls and women to play sports in schools across the nation. Ohio Northern University Head Women's Basketball Coach Michele Durand has been coaching basketball for 23 years, and says she wouldn't have that opportunity without Title Nine.

"It's just afforded me every opportunity. First of all as a student athlete because growing up I played basketball and other sports. And the other thing it's afforded me is this position," said Durand.

Title Nine has helped to break down negative stereotypes about women and sports, but Durand says there's still a ways to go. She says she's reminded of that when more people tune in to see the men's basketball team play.
