LIMA, OHIO -
Six weeks ago, Shawn Briley had shoulder surgery. Since then he's been in and out of doctors offices, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers. However, keeping track of his medical information has been relatively easy. Briley uses the "My Chart" application of the CarePATH program to view test results, schedule appointments, and confirm prescriptions.
"It's very easy to follow it there, and it's like, oh when is my appointment. I can jump online, check it out. It's right there. It's pretty simple, pretty easy to use," said Briley.
Family physician Dr. Jay Martin has been using the system in his office for the past nine months. Dr. Martin believes that patients will receive better treatment now that CarePATH is operational in all of the facilities connected to St. Rita's.
A patient goes into the E.R. or urgent cares, and they're going to have access to their medication list, their problem list, what their last appointment involved, and so it makes the communication so much simpler," said Martin.
The system provides one medical record for each patient. That record will follow the patient through all of St. Rita's affiliated offices-- including ambulatory care centers, physicians offices, and emergency departments.
"It makes a huge difference in the accuracy in terms of treating that patient," said Dr. Martin.
Briley is also a father of four. Now he can make sure all of his children's records are accurate and up to date as well.
"I'm glad they implemented something like this. It makes my life a little easier as a family man," said Briley.
