When school lets out for the summer many needy children go hungry and that includes many in our area.
It's estimated that more than 840,000 needy children in Ohio receive critical nutrition assistance during the school year.
Many counties have meals available for families when school is out through the Summer Food Service Program.
That program operates at more than 1,700 sites in 77 Ohio counties, but not Mercer County.
That's something that concerns Ohio's US Senator Sherrod Brown.
Brown says more than 18 percent of Ohio families are unsure of where their next meal will come from and the Summer Food Service Program helps meet that need.
