Lima Ohio -

Recent studies suggest that more than 70 percent of teens hide their online behavior from their parents. The means of hiding Internet behavior vary, but the end result is the same, parents are still left in the dark.

The computer security program McAfee, released their national teen Internet behavior study, after investigating the online habits, behaviors, and interactions of teens. Up from 45 percent just two years ago, 70 percent of teens are hiding what they are searching, saying and doing on social media sites and other web pages.

While many teens are changing their privacy settings, some are subtlety deleting some but not all of the search history, because deleting it all would be too suspicious.

Many parents have taken a step in the right direction, by getting a Facebook account of their own, and becoming a friend of their kids. Some parents have taken it one step further by hacking the accounts of their kids to see what privacy setting have blocked.

According to the study, half of the teens admitted to hacking social network accounts, 60 percent said they have witnessed cyber bullying and 30 percent admitted to visiting pornographic web sites on a weekly basis.

To hide their actions, teens are clearing the browser history; closing or minimizing their browsers when a parent enters the room; hiding or deleting instant messages and videos; lying or omitting details about their online activities; or simply put, they are using a computer that parents don't check.
