Where does our food come from? That is a question that faculty at Lima's Bradfield Center hope to answer this summer.
Thanks to a grant, students are helping cultivate a vertical garden. The project is described as low-tech and a space-saver. Water is pumped into the top containers, before trickling down to give all of the lower plants a drink. The plants do not even require dirt, instead each container is filled with ground-up coconut shells. Instructor's say it has been an eye opening experience for the kids.
The veggies will be harvested by the students, before being turned into salsa. All of the salsa's ingredients; tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, and more are in the garden.
