Findlay, Ohio -
After being unemployed for the past year, Scott Trimble began at Mitec in May. Mitec is Findlay's newest automotive manufacturing plant. The German owned company makes powertrain transmission parts for General Motors. Trimble recently got called back to his former job but declined.
"I decided to stay right here because I feel this is where the future is at. There's job security where I had none before. It makes me feel a lot better here," said Trimble.
The company also has factories in Europe and China. Findlay was chosen from a list of 140 possible sites to become Mitec's first facility in North America.
Findlay was chosen for its close proximity to Detroit, because of the solid workforce, and for the warm reception officials received while visiting Findlay.
"All of the important people of Findlay came to us and offered to help. Now we have a footprint like we did in China and Europe," said Michael Militzer, Owner of Mitec Automotive.
Much of the facility is empty right now, but plans are in place to grow from 25 employees to 135 over the next five years.
Governor John Kasich believes this new business could lead to more opportunities in the state.
"He will go back to Germany and because we're being business friendly he'll tell other German companies to come here," said Kasich.
The state offered tax incentives and loans to lure the company to Ohio. In return Mitec is obligated to create at least 88 jobs at the facility within the company's first three years.
