Another Star Spangled Spectacular is about to blast off on Independence Day as the country celebrates its 236th birthday on Wednesday.
The rides and food concessions for the children have arrived and will be ready to go. They are set up near Diamond 2 at Faurot Park. Work was continuing on the bowl, where the stage for the evening entertainment will be set up and ready for thousands to enjoy. SSS Chairman George Dunster says they've done this for so long the event should go off without a hitch, but his big concern is the heat.
The other highlight of the day is low level fireworks near the bowl and the main show that is set off near the Collett Street tennis courts. Zambelli again handling the fireworks and Lima Fire Inspector Warren Pughsley says the dry conditions mean water will be used to keep them safe.
