Cleaning up the debris from June 29th's storm is only half the battle for many residents. The next step is fixing the damage, but counties are ready to help cover some of the repair costs.
Residents who saw their homes, barns, garages and other real estate destroyed or damaged by the storm, are eligible for repair assistance. Filling out the DT 26 form with the auditor's office allows the county to cover a portion of the costs, something Putnam County Auditor Robert Benroth says is based on percentages.
Had the storm occurred just 2 days later, in the month of July, the 75 percent deduction would have been lowered to 50 percent, due to July being considered the halfway point for the 2012 year.
If you have serious damage to your home or other structures, call your county auditor and ask to file a DT 26 form.
