"We are not making very good progress", those the words of United Steelworkers Local 624 President Mike Edelbrock following contract talks with husky energy Tuesday.
Edelbrock says the two sides talked for about three hours Tuesday. He says two proposals from the company were actually a step back.
One was related to a safety job. The company wants it as an assignment job, the union wants it permanent.
Also fill-in jobs, 24 of them. The last contract had those jobs as permanent, but the company wants to also turn them into assignment jobs. Edelbrock says if that happened the company could do away with those 24 positions.
By having them as assignment jobs the company would save on overtime.
Husky said Tuesday they have agreed to continue talks but they will wait to hear from the union on if that will happen this week or next.
The union will hold its regular Wednesday informational meeting with members at 12:30 and 6:30.
