A new law will soon be enacted throughout all of Ohio's school districts in an effort to crack down on cyber bullying.
The provisions will take effect on November 4th, and districts are now adapting their bullying policies to follow the mandates in the Jessica Logan Act. Wapakoneta Superintendent Keith Horner says their current policies will be expanded to include the new elements. Changes include possible suspension for students who engage in cyber bullying, required training for school staff, and education for parents on anti-bullying policies.
Horner expects challenges to the law which gives school expanded authority. He also says even with the new rules in place, bullying must be reported. The district also formed a new school wide anti-bullying committee to try to cut down on incidents.
