Seen as a historical landmark by area residents, the St. Paul AME Church on West Spring Street, is in need of renovations. To help raise money for the renovations and upcoming events, congregation members held a garage sale in the parking lot.
Like many buildings over 150 years old, parts of the structure begin to deteriorate, as St Paul is now 154 years old. Holding a garage sale not only helps to raise some extra money for renovations, it helps to sponsor future events that will improve church membership.
Eva Brown was helping out today, as she looks to save the church she grew up in. A member of the church for over 50 years, the church is means too much to just let it fall apart, but at the same time, no one wants to walk around with their hands out asking for money.
Looking ahead to future events, St. Paul AME will be holding a fish fry on August 3rd, and the church's Founder's Day event on August 12th. Both events will take place at the church's West Spring Street location.
