Enthusiastic rail fans turned out in Leipsic today for a special event as part of its 30th anniversary, Norfolk Southern rolled out its vintage nickel plate #765 steam locomotive built in Lima.
The special excursion for Norfolk Southern employees ran from Ft. Wayne to Bellevue. The trip offered young and old alike a chance to see the steam, smoke and turning wheels of a by gone era.
It took a lot of work to get this 70-year-old steel horse back on the rails and fans of the Berkshire class locomotive know it is a big part of Lima's history.
If you would like to see and hear the locomotive yourself, there will be three employee excursions running between Bellevue and Bucyrus on Saturday.
