Lima City Council's Finance Committee had more questions for the police and fire chiefs about a proposal to purchase updated software for their dispatch center.
Police Chief Kevin Martin told the committee that the old software, implemented in 1987 can't be upgraded and it's difficult to find vendors to maintain the current system.
The cost for the new software could be more than a quarter of a million dollars.
Chief Martin says they're exploring several companies to make sure they get the most bang for the buck.
Councilman Tom Tebben says he believes if the new software is purchased it could lead to a centralized dispatch center for Allen County.
The full city council will decide on the issuance of bonds for the software and other capital improvements at their next meeting.
