OTTAWA, OHIO -
A group opposed to widening Road 5 in Putnam County is trying to get an initiative on the November ballot to stop the project.
To make sure the proper procedures are being followed, the issue was brought before the Putnam County Board of Elections Wednesday.
The opposition group is working to reverse a county commissioners resolution from July that authorized work to begin on Road five.
Now they need to collect around 15 hundred signatures to get the issue on the ballot and let the county's voters decide whether the work should move forward.
But the clock is ticking to submit those names...August 8th is the deadline.
Work has already begun on the project, but if the signatures are collected, the project would be stopped immediately until the proposal can be voted on in November.
