Mercer County, Ohio -
Members
of the community honored K9 Zak with a vigil at the Celina Dog Park Monday evening. Many came out to pay tribute to a
dog they considered their protector and friend. It was an emotional day for
those who came to pay their respects to K-9 Zak.
Community
members lit candles, said prayers and poems for the beloved K9. The vigil also
honored dogs in general...as many brought their own dogs to the park to enjoy
the weather and the company of other animal lovers. Vigil organizers are pleased with the
turnout. People feel they didn't just lose a dog ...but a true friend. That's
why one dog owner says negligence on the part of caretakers will not be tolerated.
Sheriff's
office employees did not attend the vigil. Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey
thought their presence would be a distraction. He did however provide
organizers with a bio and statement about Zak.
The people of Mercer County say Zak was more than just a dog, he was a true friend and will be missed.
