United Steelworkers Local 624 leadership is beginning to think Husky Energy wants to get rid of them altogether by breaking the union.
The union held its weekly informational meeting Wednesday, telling its members the company now wants to replace 60 to 70 of its permanent jobs with contractors.
Union President Mike Edelbrock says to do that is flat out dangerous.
Edelbrock says the companies proposals, if not so sad would be comical.
He says they continue to take steps backward appearing to want to break the union.
The company is reviewing the unions latest settlement offer, and will get back with the union to set a date for new talks. The strike is now 76 days old. Edelbrock says 18 workers have now crossed the picket lines and returned to work.
