Even before school begins, hundreds of children in Allen County are getting some worthwhile lessons as St. Rita's Medical Center hosts a healthy kids fair at the Civic Center.
The goal is for students to develop positive, lifelong habits. The event focused on nutrition, exercise, and positive self esteem. However, stations set up around the Civic Center taught the kids everything from fire safety to improving their soccer skills.
The kids also learned through a variety of presentations. Jim "Basketball" Jones entertained the crowds while spreading an anti-bullying message. And Marshall Reid spoke about his healthy lifestyle changes.
Organizers say this is the first time St. Rita's has hosted a free health fair for kids. However, the hospital has held youth wellness events for the past few years.
