The storms that came through the area on June 29th, knocked down hundreds of trees, some of which found themselves in the Blanchard River. In the Spring, members of the Putnam County Soil & Water Conservation began cleaning the Blanchard River in the Ottawa area. The effort of taking branches and fallen trees out of the water have gone un-noticed after storms tore through the area, adding new trees to the once clean river.
With funds depleted, County Commissioners are waiting to hear back from the state about a grant, that could not only help finish the clean up project, but lower the unemployment rate as well.
For more information on the clean up efforts and how you can help out, call the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation office at (419)-523-5159.
