Veterans, patriotism and a celebration of 200 years.
Founded under Colonel Jennings in 1812, residents and area veterans celebrated 200 years for the village of Fort Jennings. Dave Schimmoeller was one of the lucky veterans who got the opportunity to fly in an authentic Huey helicopter. For Dave, the excitement and joy of riding in the historical aircraft was out-weighed by the emotional honoring that he received.
Also taking place on Saturday, a trip down memory lane with a history lesson on each of the wars starting with the Revolutionary War, and going all the way up to recent times with the war in Afghanistan. Vietnam veteran Dan Swick saw the celebration as a way to educate the younger generations on what their elders fought for decades ago.
Each of Saturday's events were focused on the veterans that fought for their country, making the celebration possible, and for Mayor Jim Smith, the day was simply overwhelming.
Although the celebration came to an end, the memories from Saturday's celebration will last forever.
