Wapakoneta City Council is looking at contracting with Solar Planet to construct a facility that would generate energy from the sun.
The solar farm would be built on Wapakoneta's north east side near the city's compost facility. Wapakoneta city council has first reading Monday night of a resolution which would allow safety services director Bill Rains to enter into a contract with Solar Planet for the project.
Rains says this will help generate electricity during peak times.
Wapakoneta would buy the power generated from Solar Planet.
If Wapakoneta city council passes the legislation, work on the project could begin as early as October.
