Local comedian Joe Deez is proud to be doing stand-up in the hometown of the late comedy legend Phyllis Diller.
Deez moved to Lima from Ft. Wayne. He says it's sad more Lima natives don't know Diller grew up in downtown Lima, just right on Market street.
He plans to keeps Diller's memory alive and well by starting monthly comedy shows at Louie's Nite Club on Main street. The next show starts on September 1st.
Although more people don't know Diller was from Lima, she did come back to the area every now and then. In 1993, she was the commencement speaker at Bluffton University and received a Doctor of Humane Letters.
That same year, she held a benefit concert at the Civic Center in Lima as a fundraiser event for Yoder Recital Hall.
Diller died Monday in her sleep at age 95.
