In the summer of 1993 Thomas was among a group of soldiers that were dispatched to Mogadishu, Somalia to find and capture criminal warlord Mohammed Farrah Aideed.

Thomas and his men were involved in an 18 hour fire fight that would later be recounted in the book and movie "Blackhawk Down".

19 Americans died, 78 were wounded in the worst urban combat seen by U.S. troops since WWII.

Thomas has written a book called "Get it On" and talks about how lessons learned under fire can inspire us all on a daily basis.

Thomas is now a Nashville musician.

His band "Cornbread" was featured in the movie "Sweet Home Alabama".
