LIMA, OHIO -
The near abduction of a six year old Portland, Oregon, girl is the latest example of a rather frightening trend.
Police say a man tried to grab the girl and run off but was stopped by neighbors and relatives.
It follows on the heels of a similar case in Philadelphia caught on surveillance video where a twelve-year-old girl was able to avoid being nabbed.
Local officials say step one for kids is to never approach a strange car especially where your senses are telling you something just isn't right.
Lima Safety Service Officer Dave Vastano says the bad guys will try to entice kids to go with them by using things like candy or ice cream.
He says the key is to make sure everyone around knows you are in trouble.
Especially with schools getting back in session, Vastano recommends assigning your kids several safe houses along the route they can run to in case of trouble.
