Honoring a Hometown Hero

Posted: Updated:

News of Neil Armstrong's death has brought the world together just as news of his first step on the moon brought us together back in 1969.

Wednesday evening, friends and colleagues gathered outside the museum dedicated to Armstrong's accomplishments, to say a final farewell to the man on the moon.

Hundreds of people turned out for Wednesday's memorial, paying their respects to Neil Armstrong. Some of those who were there knew Armstrong personally, from growing up in Wapakoneta. Others came to the memorial simply to honor his memory, calling him a true hometown hero.

There will be a private funeral service for Armstrong on Friday in Cincinnati where he will be laid to rest.
