VAN WERT, OHIO -
It's been in the works for quite a while, and now the residents of Van Wert along with the Ohio School Facilities Commission have made it happen. Students in grades one through five are all attending school under one roof, and the both kids and teachers are enjoying the change.
For students in Van Wert Elementary School, it's the first day in a brand new building.
Work began 15 months ago on the 100,000 square-foot building that houses about 80 staff and over 700 students in grades one through five. This is a big change for kids and teachers who were spread out among four different schools.
Teachers say the new building makes it easier to conduct meetings and spend more time in the classroom.
Superintendent Amstutz says the building is 90 percent complete and only requires minor tweaking. The playground is one area they'll continue to work on. A fence will be installed around the grounds and grass will replace the dirt piles.
