Hancock County -
Hancock County Commissioners meeting with business owners today, discussing the proposed demolition of four buildings on South Main Street.
Commissioners are in favor of demolishing the buildings and using them as office space. They say the location is perfect because it's in close proximity to the court house, county government and city municipal building. Business owners are against tearing down the buildings, but commissioners say they had more than enough time to save them.
When commissioners did offer the buildings for sale in 2009, the bid submitted by Findlay Development was not only less than the published minimum bid, but it was less than 16-percent of what the county paid for the properties originally. However, business owners still accuse commissioners of being in a rush to demolish the buildings which they say could add to Findlay's vibrant downtown.
Businessmen know the current commissioners will not budge, but they're willing to hold out until the commissioner's office sees some new faces.
