Area firefighters got a first-hand look at some of the tough challenges in fighting fires out in rural areas.
All Allen County fire departments were invited to the fairgrounds for a training sessions Sunday designed to show them the best way to haul water when it might be at a premium.
There's no standard plan used by all departments on how best to transport water to structure fires and the hope is training exercises like these will give all firefighters access to the best ideas available.
The drill helped firefighters practice in the event that no hydrants are in sight.
They worked on the best methods to transporting water including loading up the tanker, or relying on ponds, which can come with problems of their own.
Fire officials say the exercise was just one of several they will hold throughout the year to stay sharp.
