September 29th marked the National Take Back Initiative, promoting recycling awareness. Putnam County's took part in the event for the fourth time.
Collecting medications, cell phones, computers, TVs and more, hundreds of Putnam County residents came to dispose of their unwanted items. Recycling events such as this one help to stop illegal disposal and help to save the environment.
Within the first 45 minutes, volunteers were forced to stop the collection of TVs, paint, household batteries and light bulbs. Event coordinators apologized for the limited collection of these items, and hope to learn from the event.
Cell phones that were collected will go to Crime Victim Services and household items will go to area thrift stores.
